Archive for the “Professions” Category

Posts related to the various professions in the game, whether it be levelling them or items you can make.

The most notable thing that I got out of Blizzards little Press Conference thing (that I have been slow in posting about, because my Mum was here and I was tied up with the following:

– Of course I didn’t go out and buy fruit in an attempt to make you think I eat it

– The house is ALWAYS this clean!

– Yes, I have been saving, I swear!)

Anyway, apart from the ‘lookie, we have canned most everything that we said was cool and awesome about Cataclysm!’ announcement, there was something big snuck in there.  Something scary.

“Look, you’ll be able to LEARN your glyphs”.

Yay, no more carting around glyphs.  Because so many of us do that, right?

… but wait, what about us Scribes?

I’m not sure how Inscription is going to be a profitable profession anymore.  Unless glyphs become MUCH more expensive to make, so we can charge out the wazoo for them, Scribes are going to be low on cash all the time.  For me, that’s not a huge deal.  I’m too lazy to exploit the glyph market anyway.  But for others, I can see this being a pain in the butt.

The other thing is this whole ‘Major, Medium, and Minor Glyph’ thing.

WHAT THE HELL?

What is the difference between a Medium Glyph and a Minor Glyph?

  • Major glyphs (much like they are now)
  • Medium glyphs (NEW “fun factor” and cosmetic glyphs)
  • Minor glyphs (much like they are now)

Am I just slow?  Am I missing something?  Minor glyphs are supposed to be the ‘fun’ ones, right?  They generally suck enough that they could only be considered as fun.  Unless, of course, all the minor glyphs that lack utility will shift to Medium Glyphs, and all the ones with sucky-ass utility will stay as Minors.  And really, shouldn’t those names be the other way around?

I am so confused!  I just want to scream… just like my cat does when I take her picture.

Suki Cat rawring.

In my quest to be the Noobiest Person on Cenarius, I am pursuing random achievements instead of doing, you know, useful stuff… like getting gear.  One of these things is fishing.  If it’s a waste of time, I’ll be guaranteed to do it!

Stealth Mission into Orgrimmar

Stealthing without stealth is awfully difficult.  Stealthing without Stealth without a map makes it even more difficult.  Add a total lack of skill into the equation, and, well… let’s just say it was very very very difficult indeed.

See, I wanted to go into Org to get a fish.  That’s all I wanted!  I didn’t want to kill anyone, I didn’t even want to kill the stupid guards that just refused to let me in.  However, I knew that the Horde wouldn’t look too kindly on me sneaking into their domain, so I was prepared for some trouble.  I pre-emptively equipped my fishing pole (a sign of good intentions if there ever was one), swam my way down the the bridge that I found entirely though happy accident, and started pulling guards off the bridge.  By the way – those guards are surprisingly tough for level 75’s!  I was as jumpy as a cat on a hot tin roof the whole time, petrified someone would come out and kill me.  I eventually picked off the half a dozen guards at the entry, and ran in along that winding path.  I stuck to the ‘wall’, hoping that people just wouldn’t notice me if I was off the road.

Of course… that didn’t work.  I saw a Paladin riding towards me, and clung as close to the wall as I could.  He kept going, and just as I breathed a sigh of relief… he doubled back and rode his horse right.  into.  my.  FACE.  Oh God!!

I just stood there and waited for him to start beating on me.  I did keep a small shred of self respect, and merely /waved rather than /cowering.  Too bad you could probably smell the mess in my pants a mile away!  He still didn’t move… I didn’t move… it was a weird form of standoff.  I tentatively moved down the road.  He followed me.  I moved further.  He followed further.  Feeling reassured that he probably wasn’t going to kill me, I just kept running.  Then I realised – god damn it, I don’t know where the hell I am going!  I ended up in the Valley of Strength (or whatever that damn place is called), and figured out I went a bit too far when I saw masses of red names floating around everywhere.  Yikes!

WoWScrnShot_032109_001935I quickly turned around, and saw the pond.  Phew.  A 71 DK was fishing in it, but that was cool.  I figured, so long as he didn’t start anything, I was ok.  I put on my brave face, and caught myself a fish.  Whoo hoo!  Then I bowed before the 2 Horde, and off I went as fast as I bloody could out the door.  I didn’t even stop to kill the guards, I just ran straight through them and lost them.

So, Arangar and Vaneere, I thank you from the bottom of my small blackened heart.  Possibly the best Horde that I have ever met (or the worst, depending on your perspective!)

So Poor I have to Fish for Coins!

The other thing I have always wanted is the Titanium Seal of Dalaran.  For someone as indecisive as myself, an in-game decision maker is a god send!  I approached my task a couple of days ago, not thinking about how difficult it would be to complete – after all, if I did that, I would never have started!  Finally, last night at about 10pm I decided that I was going to sit there and complete the achievements, once and for all.  I dragged out my trusty fishing pole, purchased some lures, and got to fishing.  At that point my fishing skill was at about 425, so I still had a little bit to go.

Eventually I got to the point where I needed 1 silver, 1 copper and a few gold coins.  Fishing was sitting at 438.  I was beginning to wonder which would happen first – a fishing achievement or maxing out fishing!  I managed to get the Silver in the City achievement just before maxing fishing (at 445).  Copper came not long after that, and then I had a big rush where I got all the gold coins I needed bar two – Chromie and Arthas.  Then things suddenly went downhill.

I couldn’t catch a coin to save my life!  I got endless amounts of Fountain Goldfish, but I couldn’t even fish up a stinking copper, let alone anything else.  THEN some jerk off Horde

WoWScrnShot_032109_224620

decided that it would be great fun to stand on my bobber and taunt me.  So, in true BBB style, I’m going to do the old name and shame.  You want to be a blatant wanker and ruin other people’s fun?  Be prepared to take the credit.  They even posed for a SS, so you can see them in their full ‘glory’.

So, Wildncrzy and Syreyne, you sure did a great job of representing your guild there.  Well done.

That pain in the butt kerfuffle went for a while, so I took the opportunity to go grab some salad. Nommy.

Eventually, I came back, and the Orc had left, but the BE was still hanging around.  She decided to leave me alone though, and the fishing hi jinks continued.  It was basically more of the same old same old… I was down to just one coin (Chromie’s, my favourite member of the Dragonflight), it was 1am, and I was getting tired and grumpy.  I wasn’t going to bed though, until I had that coin!

Casting continued for a long long long long time.  Words can not describe how horrible it was.  Finally, at about 2.45am, I got it!  I was so close to giving up, but after declaring in Twitter that I was not leaving until I got the coin, I felt obligated to stay.  Besides, Softi said she would hold me to it!

WoWScrnShot_032209_024329P.S – people who insist on flipping their coin right near the fountain when people are fishing – bite me!

Well…. it really needs nothing more said than that!  Unfortunately my screenshot mod failed me (whether it be because I didn’t set it up properly, or because that particular mod just sucks!).  I respecced straight back to Destruction, but it was late and I was far too tired to look at what I had planned, so it could be all ass-up.  At the moment I am 7/13/51 (no backdraft), which oddly enough is almost identical to my old 5 man spec in Burning Crusade!  Some things just never change.

I also bothered to get Northrend Explorer and levelled cooking up to about 400 last night.  Cost me a bit since I was lazy and didn’t want to go to OL (which was just plain silly since I went there for the daily!), so I brought a lot of recipes off the AH.  Lazy people like me make smart people rich!

So, since I couldn’t get a ding shot, here is something else which may entertain you as well.  I know I had a chuckle.  I s’pose I could give him a break… he was dying!

So, Patch Day.  I have to say, I missed out on most (but not all) the quirks and problems that Cenarius had to throw at us today thankfully because I was at work for most of it.  When I lamented on Twitter that everyone else got to play around with WoW while I had to be at the beach, and people wondered why I was complaining, well… this might give you a hint.  15102008002

Yes, it was horrible, cold, unfriendly beach weather.  I didn’t take a jumper or jacket either because I originally wasn’t supposed to do sport, but things got swapped around and I got to take the kiddies to the seaside.  Needless to say, I did what all very athletic teachers do on sport day – stood there shivering while the kids surfed as I ate hot chips.

On WoW related topics, Sar is currently the epic spec of 0/0/0, since I haven’t even had a chance to do much with her.  I updated as many mods as I could, some refused to work, which is a shame.  Hermia is some weird variation of a Feral tank spec which I can’t remember.  All my other characters have been ignored, and no doubt I will forget that all their talent points have been reset if I ever brush the dust off them.

So, what did I do all afternoon in WoW if I wasn’t speccing?  I spend most of it combating the server, while levelling Inscription.  I now have a major case of ‘Finger clicking strain’ debuff, from Milling immense quantities of herbs.  I still haven’t finished learning, but have Milled everything and I am ready to go again tomorrow (I was just too tired tonight).  I have decided that I will put most of my glyphs in the Guild Bank, even though this is a fairly big loss for me.  Everyone deserves to have them after all the help that they have given me anyway.  I still think the Warlock glyphs are a pile of poo for the most part, and I was very disappointed with my first Minor Glyph, which was a Hunter glyph increasing the damage their pet deals while using Eyes of the Beast.  How useless.  Needless to say, I made none of those.  I am more excited about being able to make Darkmoon cards personally.  Shiny!

In non-WoW related news, am currently panicking over all the assignments I have due within the next week or so (that I haven’t started because I am a lazy git).  I will have to do those tomorrow.  I have this weekend to write a 5000 word paper, because after that I work every day before it is due, and wont have the time.  Thankfully after that is submitted I am done forever.  Or at least until I forget how stressful it all was and go to do post grad.  This may mean a total lack of posting.  Of course, knowing how much I love to procrastinate, it could mean you get more posts than ever before!

Also, I got a shiny new phone.  Yay me!  Now I can twitter from work! – Although, I am scared that using it too much will run up my bill immensely.  Of course, I can only do that during break times anyway.  They don’t happen much.  Still, it is a definite upgrade, although it costs me twice as much as my old phone did.

Well, the big patch is going to hit very shortly.  Am I ready?  I think so!  If that isn’t enough herbs, I don’t know what will be!

WoWScrnShot_101308_124058

Honestly, I still don’t know whether I want the patch to come yet or not.  Sure, I am looking forward to levelling Inscription, but a part of me is also sad that I will miss out on a bear mount forever now.  Oh well!

Not much to report either I am afraid, being very tired and grouchy today means I have little to say.  I promise something at least resembling a half decent post will happen soon!

There are many things that I have always wished tailors could do. Of course, being that I have just gotten out of bed and have an hour before I have to go to school, I can guarantee half of them will have vanished into the ether.  I’ll give it the old college try, hey?

1. Basic repairs

I have always wished that tailors who happened to be cloth wearers (so, the vast majority of us) could perform some minor repairs to our clothing. I have always viewed tailoring as a bit of a money sink (Never having made money off it because selling bags is rarely successful, and I am too lazy to sell the specialised cloth), and something which would help us save money would be great.

2. A tailor-only, BoP bag

Tailors can make an astounding array of bags. However, I think we should be rewarded for our goodness in making bags for all by giving us a larger than usual bag pattern, just for ourselves. Doesn’t really hurt the other classes, doesn’t force people into tailoring like the epic sets did for min-maxers… just a nice reward.

3. For the girls

I know my female bank alts would love a cute handbag offhand! Not so sure what I would make the guys though… a pointless hand puppet? An oversize wallet? *shrug* A briefcase would go well with my banker’s tuxedo, but that would of course require a leatherworker. Drat. Of course, most people would kill to have a genuine Saresa handbag, especially after some clever marketing in the Trade channel.

4. Discoveries!

I am firmly of the opinion that all professions should have some form of discovery. Of course, discoveries work well with alchemy because alchemists are making things all the time. However, I would have loved to have discovery attached to tailoring while I was levelling as some form of reward for making umpteen zillion of the same pair of pants.

5. Embellishment

Thanks to Nibuca for the suggestion when I was stuck, it would be wonderful if tailors could add a customised symbol to their cloaks (similar to tabard symbols I guess). What would Sar have? A Felhunter rampant of course!!

Improvements implemented in the patch/expansion which I loooove:

- Flying mount in the form of a flying carpet

- Increased chance of getting cloth drops off humanoids – FINALLY

I am sure that you have all seen the news that the content patch is fast approaching. Unfortunately for me, I have done basically no preparation for the content patch, and am falling rapidly behind my goals. So, instead of doing fun stuff like raiding or instancing this weekend, I am going to be frantically racing around Azeroth gathering herbs to level my Inscription up on Hermia super fast. At least I do not need to ditch a good profession to pick it up – I’m just ditching skinning, which will give me a little more motivation to level up my Hunter, since she is a Skinner/LW.

In other news, something nice happened today – I was basically guaranteed a job for the next school term. Huzzah! Paid work! it’s not full time (3/5 days one week, 4/5 the other) but it’s a heck of a lot more than I get now. It also gives me a long weekend every weekend, which is just awesome. Very very nice indeed… The only condition is that I pass my internship, although it doesn’t look like I am going to fail (seeing as they have offered me work, they must be relatively impressed).

Unfortunately, I don’t have much more to say – time to go and get ready for a night out with some friends. Hopefully something a bit more interesting tomorrow.
